Akzo Nobel Earns U.S. EPA Achievement Track Membership

WAUKEGAN, ILLINOIS USA, January 10. 2001 - Akzo Nobel Aerospace Coatins, Inc. (ANAC) proudly accepted membership into the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's National Environmental Achievement Track, designed to award the pace-setters and environmental leaders in the public and private sectors. ANAC is one of only 250 U.S. facilities to receive Charter membership.

In addition to a history of compliance with regulation, ANAC was recognized for their commitment to going beyond compliance with environmental laws. Their proactive role and confidence in their environmental management system helped secure this achievement.

"Your voluntary effort to push the envelope, exceed requirements, and seek maximum opportunity rather than minumum acceptability shows EPA that Akzo Nobel Aerospace Coatings is contributing to our nation's environmental health," said Carol Browner, Administrator for the EPA.

Early in 2000, the Waukegan facility also earned STAR status in the U.S. OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Agency) Voluntary Protection Program. This was an honor bestowed on only 650 companies across the U.S. after extensive on-site evaluation of hte company's safety practices.
